My kid kept getting the same problems wrong. Here's what we did.
Not more practice. The right practice — in minutes.

My son came home with a math quiz.6 out of 10.Not a disaster. But all four wrong answers were the same type of problem — subtraction word problems where he had to figure out what was being asked before doing any math.
He didn't need more math.He needed more of that — the exact thing he was stuck on.
The old way
A few months ago, this would have meant:
- Spending 20 minutes searching for 3rd grade subtraction word problem worksheets
- Finding ones that were either too easy, too hard, or weirdly formatted
- Printing them out (hoping we had paper)
- Sitting next to him, re-explaining, marking answers
- Realizing halfway through that the problems weren't even the right style
One quiz. Two hours of my evening. Still not sure it actually helped.
What we did instead
I opened Chimoya and typed:
"3rd grade, math, subtraction word problems. Involve numbers up to 1,000. Include both single and double-digit subtractions."
Ten questions. Ready in seconds.I sent him the link. He opened it on his tablet. No setup. No logins. No explaining what to click.
He got three wrong
Which is fine. That's the point.
But here's what was different: for each wrong answer, Chimoya showed him exactly where he went off track. Not just "incorrect." An actual explanation. He read it. Asked me one question. And then he got it.
I didn't have to sit next to him the whole time.I didn't have to mark anything.I didn't have to explain the same concept three different ways before something landed.
The whole thing took about 15 minutes
Start to finish. Including the time it took me to type the prompt.
That's not a small thing.Fifteen minutes on a Tuesday evening — while dinner was still cooking — and my son walked away actually understanding what he'd been missing.
Not because we drilled harder.Because we drilled smarter.
The problem was never that he needed more practice. It was that the practice was never specific enough — and the feedback never came fast enough.
That's what Chimoya is for.Not to replace the work. Just to make it worth doing.
